This page is a reference for the UP.Capture interface — what each region contains and what each control does. For step-by-step procedures, see UP.Capture Channels.

Screen regions

#	Region	Purpose
1	UP navigation sidebar	Moves between UP applications and sections.
2	Channels toolbar	Page-level actions: stream overlay settings and channel creation.
3	Channels preview panel	The channel cards, plus controls for filtering, searching, sorting, and display density.
4	Channels display and information panel	Detail view for the selected channel: preview, statistics, and metadata.

Shared across UP applications.

Control	Description
Stream Overlay	Opens a drop-down menu that chooses which stream properties are overlaid on the channel thumbnails. See Stream Overlay.
Add New Channel	Opens the Add New Channel panel. See Add a channel.

Stream Overlay

Three independent options, each toggled on or off. A checkmark marks the ones that are on.

Option	Overlays
Video Codec	The video codec of the incoming stream, at the bottom left of the thumbnail.
Audio Codec	The audio codec of the incoming stream, at the bottom left of the thumbnail.
Bitrate	The current bitrate in Mbps, at the top right of the thumbnail.

The overlay applies to every channel card, not just the selected one, and your choice is remembered in the browser between sessions. It is display-only: it does not change what the preview decodes and does not filter which channels appear. A property with no value available shows as a dash.

Channels preview panel

Contains the preview panel toolbar and an array of channel cards — one card per channel. Every channel has a card, in every status, including channels that have not been configured or activated.

Control	Description
Filters	Opens and closes the Filters panel. See Filters.
Search	Opens a search field that matches channel names. The match is case-insensitive and matches any part of the name. Source names, tags, and metadata are not searched.
Sort	Opens a drop-down menu of sort options. See Sort options.
Display	Switches the channel cards between Full View and Condensed View. See Card display modes.

Positions are shown in the screenshot callouts above.

Filters

Two filters, each allowing any number of values. Selecting no value in a filter leaves it inactive.

Channel Status	The channel’s status. See Channel Status values.
Stream Status	The connection state of the channel’s source. See Stream Status values.

Sort options

Option	Orders by
Alphabetical Order (A-Z)	Channel name, ascending.
Alphabetical Order (Z-A)	Channel name, descending.
Activation Date	When the channel’s worker was last activated.
Creation Date	When the channel was created.

Your choice is remembered in the browser between sessions. Pinned channels stay at the top of the list regardless of the sort order.

Card display modes

Mode	Shows
Full View	The whole card: status, thumbnail, timers, controls, channel type, name, stream details, the recording-configuration button, and tags.
Condensed View	Status, thumbnail, timers, and the recording controls only.

Channel cards

Each card shows the status, identity, and controls for one channel.

Status and identity

Element	Description
Blue outline	The channel is selected.
Channel Status	The current state of the channel, shown as a badge at the top left. See Channel Status values.
Pin icon	The channel is pinned to the top of the list.
Thumbnail	A still image of the channel input. See Thumbnail states.
Worker uptime	Elapsed time (`HH:MM:SS:FF`) in the black bar below the thumbnail, counting up from the moment the channel’s worker was activated.
Recording time	Elapsed time (`HH:MM:SS:FF`) in red beside the recording controls, shown only while a recording is open, counting up from the moment the recording started. For a scheduled recording with a fixed end, it stops at the intended duration instead of counting on through finalization. A retried recording also shows its attempt number.
Channel type	The source type the channel records. Full View only. A warning icon beside it means the source’s configuration no longer matches the channel’s.
Name	The channel name. Full View only.
Stream Status	The connection state of the channel’s source. Full View only. A redundant source shows a primary and a secondary status. See Stream Status values.
SRT URL	The ingest URL to point an encoder at, with a button to copy it. Full View only. A redundant source shows a primary and a secondary URL.
Tags	The channel’s tags, if it has any. Full View only.

Channel Status values

Status	Meaning	Can start a recording?
Not Configured	The channel has no valid recording settings, so it cannot be activated yet.	No
Configured	Recording settings are valid, but no worker is assigned.	No
Worker Pending	A worker is being assigned to the channel. Transient.	No
Ready To Record	A worker is assigned and the channel is standing by.	Yes
Starting Recording	A recording has been requested and is spinning up. It is not writing output yet.	—
Recording	A recording is in progress and writing output.	—
Finishing Recording	A stop has been requested. The recording’s output files are being finalized.	—
Aborting Recording	The recording is being cut short. Its output files may be incomplete.	—

The last five statuses all describe an activated channel: Ready To Record means activated with no recording in progress, and the other four describe the recording currently running on it.

Ready To Record describes the channel, not the incoming stream. A channel can be Ready To Record while its Stream Status is Waiting or Disconnected — there is nothing arriving to record, and Record will fail. Check that the stream is Connected before you start a recording.

Stream Status values

Status	Meaning
Waiting	The source’s ingest endpoint is up, but nothing has connected to it yet.
Connected	A stream is arriving.
Disconnected	A stream was connected and has since dropped.

A loss of signal changes the Stream Status to Disconnected. It does not change the Channel Status, and a recording already in progress keeps running through the outage. See Loss of signal.

Thumbnail states

Source not activated	A Telestream logo placeholder
Source activating	A loading spinner
Source active	Live frames from the input. The last frame stays on screen during an outage.

Controls

Control	Description
Activate	Activates or deactivates the channel’s worker. Activating assigns a worker, reserves resources, and starts the worker uptime timer; a channel must be activated before it can record. Available in Configured (to activate) and in Worker Pending and Ready To Record (to deactivate). Disabled in Not Configured until recording is configured, and while a recording is in progress.
Record / Stop / Abort	Starts, stops, or aborts a recording, depending on the channel’s status. See Recording control by status.
Edit Recording Configuration	Opens the Configurations view for the channel. Labelled Configure Recording until the channel has a recording configuration. Available only in Not Configured and Configured — deactivate the worker to re-configure a recording. See Configure a recording.
More (three vertical dots)	Opens the channel menu. See More menu.

Recording control by status

Channel Status	Button does	Notes
Not Configured, Configured, Worker Pending	Nothing	Disabled. Configure recording and activate the worker first.
Ready To Record	Starts a recording	No confirmation is asked.
Starting Recording, Recording	Stops the recording	Asks for confirmation. The recording finishes writing and finalizes its output files.
Finishing Recording	Aborts the recording	Asks for confirmation. Use this to cut a recording short instead of waiting for it to finish.
Aborting Recording	Nothing	Disabled — the abort is already under way.

Aborting stops the recording immediately instead of letting it finish. The recorded files will be cut short, and may be unplayable if the recording fails to stop cleanly.

If a recording cannot start, UP.Capture shows a message naming the cause — the source is disabled, the source could not be found, the source stream is unavailable, the source is in an outage, or the source could not be reached in time. See Start and stop recording.

Option	Description
Pin Channel / Unpin Channel	Pins the channel so it stays at the top of the list regardless of the sort order. A pinned channel shows a pin icon on its card.
Edit Channel	Opens the channel’s settings. Available only while no worker is assigned.
Configure Recording / Edit Recording Configuration	Opens the Configurations view for the channel, the same as the card button.
Open Preview	Opens the Channels display and information panel for the channel.
Open in Review	Opens the channel’s recording output in UP.Review. Unavailable when the channel has no recording output.
Channel History	Opens the Channel History panel for the channel. Unavailable on a channel that has never been activated. See Review recording history.
Delete	Deletes the channel. Available only while no worker is assigned.

Bulk actions

Selecting channel cards opens a command ribbon above the list. Each command appears only when every selected channel is eligible for it, so a mixed selection offers fewer commands.

Channels display and information panel

Opens when you select a channel card. Shows detail for the selected channel only.

Tab	Description
Preview	Live preview of the channel input. Selected by default.
Transport Statistics	Transport-level statistics for the source.
Metadata	Metadata carried by the source.
