# Welcome to UP.Ingest

## What is UP.Ingest?

UP.Ingest is an application for ingesting media from SD cards and watch folders. You can copy files from your SD cards/watch folders to your filesystem or to a network location (NAS), an S3 Bucket, an FTP server, or Dropbox. You can also submit your files to a Vantage workflow server for further processing.

<Info>
  Access to UP.Ingest is controlled by assigning seats of Ingest to user account. This allows users to login to the Ingest application via their UP account. For details on adding users and Ingest seats, please see [UP.Ingest Seat Assignment](/platform/up-settings/up-userManagement#up-ingest-seat-assignment) in Platform settings.
</Info>

## Adding a Source

A source is where your media comes from — an SD card or a watch folder. To add a source simply Insert an SD card, or create a watch folder in settings. The source appears in the Sources panel on the left.

## Submitting to a Destination

A destination is where your media goes — a folder, S3, FTP, Vantage, and more. Click the Gear icon on the left to create a destination (or [click here](navigate:settings/destinations)). There are a few ways to submit:

* Drag from [your filesystem](help:submit-a-file-from-your-filesystem)
* Drag from the [Sources panel](help:submit-source-with-drag-and-drop)
* Drag from the [media list](help:submit-media-with-drag-and-drop)
* Use the :icon\[upload] [submit button](help:submit-source-with-submit-button) which is in many places

## Window Layout

The main window is split into three areas: Sources on the left, the media player and file list in the center, and Panels on the right. You can drag the dividers to resize the areas. You can hide and show the right panels either by sliding far to the right or by using the icon in the top right corner. You can have up to two panels visible at a time.

# Sources

## What are Sources?

Sources are SD cards or watch folders you have configured. When you plug in an SD card they will appear in the Sources list. If you configure a watch folder, its contents will appear in the list.

## Temporary Sources

You can quickly look at a media file or directory by dragging it from the :filesystem-name to the Sources area. A temporary source is only present until you re-launch UP.Ingest. You can promote a temporary source to be a source via the menu in the card title.

## Attached Volumes

When you attach a volume (disk drive) to your computer, UP.Ingest can scan it to see if it is an SD card. This can take a long time if the volume is not actually an SD card. To avoid this, you are asked if any newly detected volume is an SD card. The Volumes icon allows you to manage which volumes should be considered SD cards.

# Destinations

## What are Destinations?

Destinations are places you can submit media or cards. Some destinations (S3, FTP, etc.) represent final delivery locations. Other destinations (Vantage Cloud, UP.Workflow) allow you to submit your media for further processing. You can view the status of a submission in the Monitor page.

## Creating a Destination

You can create a destination in the Settings panel - the Gear icon in the left navigation panel. ::settings-cta{path=settings/destinations}

## Submit a File from your Filesystem

Drag a file or a folder from the :filesystem-name to the destination card. ::submit-file-from-filesystem-anim

## Submit a Source Card with Drag and Drop

Drag the card from the sources panel and drop it on a destination card. ::submit-source-to-destination-anim

## Submit Media with Drag and Drop

Click on a source card to view its media. Then drag a media file from the media list and drop it on a destination card. ::submit-media-row-anim

## Submit a Source Card with the Submit Button

Any place you see the Submit button you can press to submit to a destination. Hover over a source card and click the submit button to submit it to a destination. ::submit-source-with-button-anim

# Media Playback

## Loading Media for Playback

Click on a source on the left panel. You will see a list of media below the player. Click on the media file/or card clip and it will load into the player. If you want to quickly see a file from your filesystem, you can drag it to the Sources panel. This creates a temporary source that can be used for playback.

## Making a Clip with in/out Points

Use the I key to set an in point and the O key to set an out point at the current playhead position. Press **P** to create a clip from the marked range. Clips appear in the file list below the parent media file and can be submitted to destinations independently.

## Submitting Clips

You can submit a clip to a Vantage Cloud or UP.Workflow destination using CML workflow. Submitting a clip to another destination (FTP, S3, etc.) will copy the media files and place an adjacent CML file describing the clips.

## Playback Controls

Below are the most commonly used shortcuts. Pressing j or k multiple times will speed up playback. ::keyboard-shortcuts ::settings-cta{path=settings/keyboard}

# Audio Controls

## Volume Control

When you have a clip loaded, you can adjust the volume with the slider below the player. Clicking on the audio icon button below the player will mute/unmute.

## Audio Meters

Click on the Audio panel on the right panel. The meters will show up when media is loaded in the player. If channel labels are present, they will appear on the left. \[M] button allows you to mute a specific channel. \[S] button allows you to solo a specific channel.

# Media Properties

## Showing Media Properties Inspector

Click on the properties icon on the right panel. Properties for the loaded media will appear here. You can view the Container, Video or Audio properties.

## Container Properties

Click on the Folder icon at the top of the Inspector panel. Shows the properties at the container level (MP4, TS, etc.). This shows things like file size, total duration, extensions, and number of tracks.

## Video Properties

Click on the Video icon at the top of the Inspector panel. Shows the properties on the video tracks in the media. If there are multiple tracks, you can select the track at the top level. This shows properties like video resolution, sample rate, bit rate, duration, etc.

## Audio Properties

Click on the Audio icon at the top of the Inspector panel. Shows the properties on the audio tracks in the media. If there are multiple tracks, you can select the track at the top level. This shows properties like audio resolution, sample rate, bit rate, duration, etc.

# Card Metadata

## Showing Card Metadata Panel

Click on a camera card in the sources list on the left. Click on the SD card icon in the right panel selector to see the metadata.

## Selecting Clip-specific Metadata

When a card is loaded in the sources panel, each clip may have associated metadata. Often this metadata is exactly the same, as camera / lens / location information does not change during a shoot. Use the dropdown at the top of the panel to see the metadata for each clip.

# Monitor

## Tracking Progress of Submitted Jobs

The Monitor page tracks every submission you've started from UP.Ingest. The panel on the left shows each configured watch folder source and whether it is currently being scanned. The main area on the right lists every job with its status, progress, source, and destination — use it to follow uploads in flight and troubleshoot failures.

## Reading Job Status

Each row in the jobs list shows a colored status badge.

* **Uploading/Verifying:** Blue progress bar with a percentage complete.
* **Processing:** Shown while a Vantage workflow is running after the upload has finished.
* **Completed:** The submission finished without errors.
* **Paused:** The job was stopped before it finished. If any progress was made, the percentage is shown so you can Resume.
* **Failed:** The job encountered an error. Hover over the badge to see the error message. Group rows summarize the state of every upload in the group — the worst active state wins (Failed beats Paused, which beats In Progress, which beats Completed).

## Expanding Job Groups

Most submissions create a group of uploads — for example, one upload per clip on a card plus a workflow job. The jobs list shows each group as a single row with a combined status and progress for everything inside it. Click the chevron on the left of a group row, or double-click the row, to expand it and see each individual upload. Click the chevron again to collapse the group.

## Filtering the Jobs List

The toolbar above the jobs list has three filters and a search box.

* **Status filter:** Choose which job states to include (Completed, In Progress, Paused, Failed), or pick one to show exclusively.
* **Recent filter:** Show only jobs started or completed within a time window (e.g. last hour, last 24 hours).
* **Search:** Matches against source path, destination name, and destination type.

***

:icon\[circle-remove] Clear Filters This button clears all of the filters.

## Job Control

Each row has an action menu with commands that apply to that job's group:

* **Resubmit:** Start the job again from scratch, optionally pausing the running one first.
* **Resume:** Continue a paused or failed job from where it stopped. Only available when the job made partial progress.
* **Pause:** Stop an in-progress job. Already-uploaded files are not removed.
* **Delete:** Remove the job from the list. Uploaded files and workflow submissions are left untouched. To act on multiple jobs at once, select their rows (Shift/Cmd-click, or Cmd/Ctrl-A to select all) — the same actions appear as buttons at the top of the list. Buttons are disabled when none of the selected jobs can accept the action.
